the wind was ridiculous today, so i opted for layers, knowing that the wind would find a way to make me cold. not sure what’s up with denver weather lately, but it’s been 60 one day and 40 and wacky windy the next. most certainly not the worst of weather, but not ideal either.
cozy sweater, a hint of floral on the denim (channeling spring), and chambray to balance it out. warm and fun.

i’m back! with my quirky outfit posts, because i’ve been feeling like mixing all the colors and textures and patterns like crazy lately.
up today? a hot pink window-paned blouse and striped sweater, topped off (bottomed off?) with a pair of lace-up boots.

the temperatures might be dropping in denver, but i haven’t worn a skirt in so long, i was bound to make this the second time in one week. i also have not worn this skirt in over a year. as in, back in my wedding planning days. so, it was about time it made an appearance. this time it was re-incarnated in a hipster-y outfit.
paired with mauve, lace cut-out tights, my steve madden boots, striped t-shirt and oversized cardigan. it’s casual, but not, at the same time. i could have easily worn flats (and you totally can), i just really wanted to wear boots.

i’m calling this one festively casual. i had every intention of wearing red denim and the same plaid blouse, but pair them both with my faux fur vest, but sleeping in sounded so much better. that, and i couldn’t find my red denim.
not only does this outfit tackle color blocking, but it tackles pattern blocking, too. one of my biggest tips, always: don’t be afraid to mix colors and patterns. if you’re not sure if something goes together, pair it together anyway, and wear it with pride.

some of my favorite pieces in one outfit: tribal, chambray, and pink.
one of the easiest ways to tackle a tribal print pant? pair it with a neutral top and add a colorful shoe. simple, classic, chic, and fun. and, don’t let the tribal print scare you – they can be flattering.

these plaid loafer slippers are probably one of my fave pairs of shoes. in fact, every time i wear them i forget they are real shoes and not slippers. and, let’s talk about the neon pink piping. because it’s the perfect detail.

this waffle-weave sweater from madewell seriously pairs with anything. add a chambray oxford underneath for a bit of the menswear look, or pair with a soft silk floral blouse to add a touch of femininity. and, the color alone makes it fun. but, for those of you color averse, madewell does have a similar sweater available now in neutral colors like gray and ivory.

i layered on the madewell hardcore, with the exception of a few accessories. this is actually the first time i’ve paired to button-down oxfords together, and love the look, but after some thought, the one thing missing was likely a belt to help give shape to this layered look.

i’ve previously worn a variation of this outfit, but this go-around i opted for a longer chambray shirt with my target moto vest. a little edgier, but still chic. aka, moto chic.
also, don’t forget about my madewell event tonight at the cherry creek mall. stop by from 6 to 8 p.m., let me help you pick out an outfit, grab a sweet snack, and get 20% off of your purchase of $125 or more.

this coat is my new fave. and paired with neutrals and a floral blouse, it’s a great way to balance out what “feels” like a girly outfit with a little ruggedness.
